This in Spanish

I have found one of the most challenging parts of the Spanish language is the use of the words this, that those & these.

If you are going to say= this is a good day to go to the shops= ESTE ES UN BUEN PARA LAS TIENDAS.

However if you wanted to say (that was a good day to go to the shops) you would probably say = ESTABA UN BUEN DIA IR A LAS TIENDAS.

As you can see the (that word) which is ESTA is not used in this example because you are now talking in the past tense confusing? Just a bit, however the simple way to use these words in order to get a full understanding is to stay in the present tense for example.

  This = ESTE or ESTA or ESTO depending if it is used in a feminine or a masculine sense.

That is = ESE ESA

Moving on to the plural

Those = ESAS. These = ESTOS

From this point it is easy to make up your own sentences for example: This is a very intelligent dog = este es perro  muy inteligente

That dog is stupid = ese perro es estupido

These dogs are not here- estos perros no estan aqui

Something more that you may be interested in is when you are communicating with people for example if you wanted to say you in a formal way that would be USTED if you are referring to many people then it would be USTEDES .

You are going to do it today = USTED VOY A HACERLO HOY

They are going to do it today = USTEDES VAN A HACERLO HOY

You in an informal way would be ERES

You are going to do it today = ERES VOY A HACERLO HOY

They are going to do it today=   ELLOS VAN A HACERLO HOY

The word for they is ELLOS OR ELLAS

This week I have been learning how to say parts of the body in Spanish

Here are some Spanish body parts and some sentences I have made up using them.

Back, Body, thumb, Heel, foot, nose, ear, muscle, heart, liver, they are as follows in Spanish

Back = espalda

I have a bad back today because I did too much exercise yesterday = tengo una espalda mala hoy por que hice demasiado  ejercicio de ayer

The human body is incredible =  el cuerpo humano es incredible

Its time to give the thumbs up to this project = es tiempo dar los pulgares arriba este proyecto

Heel = talon

I need new shoes because the heels are old = necesto nuevos zapatos por que los talons son viejos

Foot = pie

We can go their on foot it is not very far = podemos ir a pie no esta muy lejos

Nose = la nariz

He has a very long nose but he is very attractive = el tiene un nariz muy larga pero el es muy atractivo

Ear= oreja

Muscle = musculo

Heart = corazon 

liver= higado

these are just a few of my ideas of the Parts of the body in Spanish I am sure you can come up with many more

The Weather in the Spanish Language

Weather, thunder, frost, hale, flood, climate, sky, wind, snow, rain.

Tiempo,trueno, helada granizo, inundacion el clima. Cielo viento,la nieve lluvia

I have been learning this week how to talk about the weather in Spanish and to make up Spanish sentences using them as we do in English for example.

Weather = Tiempo

What do you think of the weather today= que piensa del tiempo hoy?

Thunder = trueno

There is going to be a thunder storm this afternoon = va a estar un trueno tormenta esta tarde

Frost, Hale = helada, granizo.

I believe there is going to be a frost tonight and hail in the morning =  yo creo va a estar una helada esta noche y granizo en la manana

Flood, rain = inundacion lluvia

There is a flood because of the heavy rain = hay una inundacion por que de las fuertes lluvias

These are just a few examples of my ideas I am sure you can come up with many more.

When we talk about the weather in Spanish for example; I am hot they would say It makes heat or if it is cold they would say It makes cold

It is hot = Hace calor.

It is cold = hace frio

The Spanish language does have a few twists and turns I have found but sometimes it can be more fun than you think when you are using English to Spanish sentences.

My lesson I have been studying this week covers words like “Quicker” faster” in Spanish they express it in different way for example if it is more the word is mass but if it is less then the word is menos.

The dog is quicker than the cat = el perro es mas rapido que el gato

The bird is quicker than the cat = el pajaro es mas rapido que el gato

I have to go slower when I am studying Spanish = tengo que ir mas lento quando estoy estudiano espanol

Their car is newer than mine = sue coche es mas Nuevo que la mia.

It is important to put less garlic in the soup = es importante poner menos ajo en la sopa

We have to put more tomatoes in the soup = tenemos que poner mas tomates en la sopa

 I would like more sugar in my tea please = me gustaria mas azucar en me te por favor

I do not want to travel quicker than necessary = no quiero viajar mas rapido que neccesario

Why not take less time to arrive there and be safer = por que no toman menos tiempo para llegar alla y ser mass seguro.

Making up your own Spanish sentences and thinking latterly is essential another technique I learnt this week words that end ly for example

Quickly would be rapidamente

We have to travel quickly to arrive there on time = tenemos que viajar rapidamente llegar alla en tiempo

Another important lesson I have learnt this week is the ing this in Spanish is ado but drop the r for example listening = escuhando the verb being escuchar

 When I am listening to Spanish they have to speak slowly = quando estoy escuchando tienen hablar lentamente

The thing is how many words can you think of that end in LY or ING?

For a start eating, drinking, fasting, excising, criticising, jumping, running, walking, watching, selling, studying, learning losing, having. Okay let’s make a few sentences using some of these.

I am eating too much and I am not going to lose weight = estoy comiendo demisiado y no va a pedir peso

These are just a few examples the most important aspect of learning to speak Spanish is to have fun. Want to know how?

I have been studying Spanish with my sister who lives in Spain and we are on the phone every week around the same time and we have found a way of practicing Spanish conversation phrases that we use in our English conversation.

Hello you are early with your call today = hola estas es temprano con su llamada hoy

Yes am 2 minutes early= si estoy dos minutos temprano

But I have talk to you about something= pero tengo que hablarte algo

What do you want to talk about? = que quieres hablar

I want to talk to you about my son = quiero hablar contigo mi hijo

I have some good news = tengo algunas buenas noticias

He is going to buy a new house in December = el vas a comprar  un Nueva la casa en deciembre.

But now I can’t say anymore =  puedo ahoro no puedo decirte

Why not = porque no

We have other things to talk about= tenemos otros cosos hablarte

Do you have time? = tienes tiempo?

I don’t have much time to study Spanish today = no tengo mucho tiempo para estudiar espanol de hoy

Before we start I have to drink some water because it is very hot here in Spain.

 Antes de epezamos tengo que par beber unos agua porque hace mucho calor aqui en enspana  

I have to drink my water every day = tengo que para beber mi aqua todas los dias

I am going to drink it now = voy a beber ahora

How much water are you going to drink= cuanto agua vas a para beber.

I am going to drink a litre every day. Voy a para beber un litro todo los dias.

I am happy to know that because it is good for you. Estoy feliz de saber que porqu es bueno para usted.

This week I have been studying how the Spanish reverse some sentences

Esta semana he estado estudiando como los espanoles  unos revertir algunas frases.

I have a red car = tengo un coche rojo which is “I have a car red.”

I have a blue car = tengo un coche azul “ I have a car blue

 I want a new car = quiero un coche nuevo.

We need a new care = neccesitamos un coche Nuevo

We want a new house = queremos la casa nueva

What do you think? Que piensa

It does not matter (important) in which order you say it = no importa el orden en que dices

We can do a little more but I am tired = podemos hacer poco mas pero estoy cansando

Mi hija teniendo un bebe voy a un abuelo y mi mujer va a abuela

My uncle is a bus driver and my aunt is a nurse = mi tio es conductor de autobus y mi tia es una enferema.

My grandson is 10 years old and my granddaughter is 12 years old = mi nieto es tengo diez anos y mi nieta es tengo doce anos   

It is important to observe that when we say “ten years old” in Spanish they say “I have 10 years”

If I was going to start a family I would like a boy and a girl = de iba a comenzar una familia mi gusta un muchucho y una muchacha.

We are going to start a family and we would like a boy and a girl = vamas a comenzar una familia y gustamos un muchacho y una muchacha

They are going to start a family soon when they have bought a house= van a comenzar una familia pronto quando han comprado la casa.

My mother and father live in a house not very far from here= mi madre y mi padre vivo en la casa no muy lejos de aqui.

My uncle and aunt live in a house near here= mi tio y mi tia vivo en la casa cerca aqui.

My brother is a solicitor and my sister is looking for work = mi hermano es un abogado y mi hermana es buscando de trabajo.

Spanish numbers 1-100 seems to confuse a lot of people however once you get used to formula it can be very simple.

The hardest part is probably getting the right pronunciation the reason being the spelling is very different to the way it sounds.

 Take note that from sixteen to nineteen they are pronounced all as one word although I have separated them to make it simple.

Spanish numbers 40 to 50 are as follows

Spanish numbers from 50 to sixty are as follows

Spanish Numbers from 80 to 90 are as follows

Spanish numbers from 90 to 100 are as follows

Furthermore you can make up sentences using the numbers for example; I am thirty one years old which would be in Spanish= tengo trente y uno anos.

 However what they are really saying is I have 21 years if you want to the add the “of age” that is Spanish is “de edad” making 31 years of age = tengo trente y uno anos de edad.

Form my experience Spanish word forms or Spanish word conjugations can be made simple if you focus on using them in every form you can think of for example;

To smile =  sonreir

I have to smile in my job to be successful = tengo que sonier en mi empleo para tener exito

But it important to take note that they what is being said is “in order to be” rather than “to be” which is why the word para is added

Smiling = sonriente

He was smiling at me all the time = el me sonriente todo el tiempo

She smiled = ella sonrio

I was happy when she smiled at me = Estaba feliz quando ella sonrio a mi.

He smiled = el sonrio

I was happy when he smiled at me = estaba feliz quando el sonrio a mi

To ask = preguntar or pedir

When I wanted to ask the way he would not tell = quando queria preguntar el camino no mi diga.

I asked her = le pregunte

I asked her where I can find it = le pregunte donde puedo encontralo

Asking = preguntando

Asking the directions can be difficult if you do not speak Spanish = preguntado los direcciones se puede dificil de no habla enspanol

To answer = contestar

I am not going to answer your question today =  no voy a contestar a su pregunta hoy

Answering = contestado

If you are answering a question how would you say it in Spanish?

Se usted contestado una pregunta como se dice en espanol

Answered = conteste

I answered your question yesterday = le conteste pregunta ayer

To search = buscar

I tried to search for the coat = trate de buscar el brigo

To lend = prestar

It is not possible to lend you the money today = no posible prestarle el dinero hoy

I could lend you the money tomorrow = podria prestarle el dinero manana

To send = mandar or enviar

It is not possible to send it today= no es posible mandar hoy or no es posible enviar hoy

To open = abrir

We have to open the shop today = tenemos que abrir la tienda hoy

These are just a few common Spanish words  but if you want to find a good way to remember these words then make up sentences using these words for example;

I want to find a different way to do it = QUIERO ENCONTRA DIFFERENTE MANERA HACELO.

I have just found a different way to say it. ACABO DE ENCONTRADO UN DIFFERENTE CAMINO HACELO

 You could use the English word way for MANERA and you will be understood.

I want to know where I can find a different restaurant= QUIERO SABER DONDE PUEDO ENCONTRA UN DIFFERENTE RESTAURANTE

I have just found a very good restaurant that is not too expensive = ACABO DE ENCONTADO UN MUY BUENO RESTAURANTE ESTE NO DEMASIADO CARO.

I have just arrived it is not possible for me to leave right now

ACABO DE LLEGAR NO ES POSIBLE PARA ME SALIR AHORA

MISMO

There is a very good and different restaurant over there = HAY UN BUENOS Y DIFFERENTE RESAURANTE ALLI

It is possible that the numbers are not the same = ES POSIBLE EL NUMERO NO ES EL MISMO

I cannot tell the difference between the numbers and the minutes = NO PUEDO DECIR LA DIFFERENCIA ENTRE Y LOS MINUTOS

“The numbers on the menu are hard to understand when you only have a few minutes to do it”= LOS NUMEROS EN EL MENU SON DURAS COMPREDAR CUANDO SU SOLOMENTE TIENE UN ALGUNOS MINUTOS HACELO.

It is a fact there are many more ways of saying the same thing but these are of the most popular and easy to remember.

This can be used in numerous ways for example;

I have just arrived = ACABO DE LLEGAR

I have just arrived this moment = ACABO DE LLEGAR ESTE MOMENTO

I have just arrived 2 minutes ago = ACABO DE LLEGAR HACE DOS MINUTOS

He has just left = EL ACABO DE SALIR

He has just arrived = EL ACABO DE LLEGAR

She has just arrived = ELLA ACABO DE LLEGAR

Important to pay attention that he = EL and she = ELLA

These are just a few simple Spanish phrases to get started that I have picked up in just a few weeks.
