Common Spanish Phrases
When you are learning to speak Spanish I found it is so important to try to think laterally and use common Spanish Phrases.
Making up your own Spanish sentences is great fun. I am just learning to speak Spanish so I found by reading books and transposing the sentences from the book is a great way to become fluent.
1 We are going to the doctors today but we have to call into the newsagent shop to buy some envelopes and some stamps
VAMAS A LOS MEDICOS HOY PERO TENEMOS QUE LLAMAR EN EL VENDEDOR PERIODICOS COMPRA ALGUNOS SOBRES Y ALGUNOS PLUMAS.
In the second sentence I have found another way of saying basically the same thing with a slight variation.
2 We have to go to the doctors today but it is not necessary to go to the newsagent shop to buy the envelopes and stamps.
TENEMOS QUE IRA LOS MEDICOS HOY PERO NO ES NECCESARIO PARA IR A VEDEDOR DE PERIODICOS COMPRA LOS SOBRES Y SELLO
3 I have called the police because there is an accident and somebody could be injured.
TENGO LLAMADO LA POLICIA PORQUE HAY EN ACCIDENTE Y ALGUIEN PODRIA SER HERIDO.
I am going to call the police because there is an accident and some people are injured.
VOY A LLAMAR LA POLICIA PORQUE HAY EN ACCIDENTE Y ALGUNAS GENTES ESTAN HERIDO
I want to find a dentist because I have broken my tooth. Do you know where I can find one that is not too expensive?
QUIERO ENCONTRA UNA DENTISTA PORQUE TENGO BOKEN MI DIENTE. SABES DONDE PUEDO ENCOTRA UNA ESE NO ES DEMASIADO CARO?
Some time when you are learning to speak Spanish by making up Spanish sentences you come across some little gems for example; the phrase “do you know” there are numerous ways you can use this phrase.
1 Do you know the way to the beach because we cannot find it? This is a very common Spanish phrase.
SABES EL CAMINO A LA PLAYA PORQUE NO PODEMOS ENCONTRALO
Do you know where we can find a good restaurant that is not too expensive because we are hungry?
SABES DONDE PODEMOS ENCONTRA UN BUEN RESTAURANTE ESE NO DEMASIADO CARO PORQUE TENEMOS HAMBRE?
Do you know where the market is because I want to buy some vegetables for dinner tonight?
SABES DONDE EL MERCADO ES PORQUE QUIERO COMPRA ALGUNAS VERDURES PARA CENA ESTA NOCHE?
Another little gem is “somebody” = ALGUIEN
Somebody has broken into my house last night
ALGUIEN TIENE ENTRADO MI CASA ANOCHE.
Somebody wants to give my son money
ALGUINE QUIERE DAR MI MUCHACHO DINERO
I don’t know why somebody would want to give my son money
NO SAY PORQUE ALGUINE LE GUSTARIA DAR MI MUCHACHO DINERERO
These are just a few examples of common Spanish phrases but with a little practice and dedication I am sure you will be able to do much better than me.
I don’t claim to be the sharpest knife in the drawer. However the most important part is to have fun when learning Spanish and that is what the rocket Spanish course is doing for me.
