Imperfect Tense in Spanish
Most people when they are learning to speak Spanish at some point or another come across what I call a road block. I experienced a road block when the phrase imperfect tense in Spanish was presented to me.
Imperfect tense in Spanish are words that express the past this can also be described as Spanish past tense or past tense in Spanish
For example; the words (were, and was)
A good way to practice these words is to make up sentences using them in the context they are in.
The dinner was very good in the hotel last night= LA CENA ESTABA MUY BUENO EL HOTEL ANOCHE
The car was there last night = EL COCHE ESTABA ALLI ANOCHE
The beach was very nice yesterday = LA PLAYA ESTABA AGRADABLE AYER
It was raining yesterday but very nice the day before = ES ESTABA LLOVIENDO AYER PERO MUY AGRADABLE EL DIA ANTES.
The rain yesterday was very heavy but it stopped in the afternoon = EL LLUVIA AYER ESTABA MUY PESADO PERO DETUVO EN LA TARDE
Moving on to more Imperfect Tense in Spanish another past tense word (were) in Spanish ESTABAN
The dogs were under the table = LOS PERROS ESTABAN DEBAJO LA MESA
The cats were in the garden= LOS GATOS ESTABAN EL JARDIN
The people were very angry = LAS GENTES ESTABAN MUY ENOJADOS
Word (are) is in the present tense so here are a few examples that I came up with
The dogs are in the garden = LOS PERROS ESTAN EN EL JARDIN
The cows are in the field= LAS VACAS ESTAN EN EL CAMPO
When you combine words together in Spanish this can be fun for example;
The Spanish interpretation for I was going to is = IB A
I was going to do it but I was very busy yesterday= IB A HACERLO PERO ESTABA MUY OCCUPADO AYER
We were going to do it but we were busy yesterday = IBOMAS A HECERLO PERO ESTABOMAS OCCUPADO AYER
We are going to do it when we have the time= VAMOS A HACERLO CUANDO TENEMOS EL TIEMPO
We are going to learn to speak spanish when we have time = VAMAS A APRENRDER HABLAR ESPANOL CUANDO TENEMES TIEMPO.
